Donahoe (Patrick) is born in County Cavan, Ireland.

March 17, 1834

Patrick Donahue arrives in Boston in 1825, works as a typesetter and printer, then purchase The Jesuit, the former newspaper of the archdiocese of Boston in 1834. He renames it The Pilot, begins to publish local as well as national news, and the newspaper subsequently comes to be known as “The Irishman’s Bible.” Donahue uses the paper to promote the assimilation of Irish immigrants and their enlistment in the Union Army. He goes on to publish Donahue’s Magazine in 1879,* and becomes a philanthropist, serving on the boards of numerous charities. Donahoe dies in 1901.
